Never Lose Value Again: CardKeep Now Tracks Store Credits and Return Deadlines
By Matt S
Never Lose Value Again
For as long as CardKeep has existed we've described ourselves as a gift card wallet. That was accurate, but it was never the whole story, and it was never the problem we actually solve.
The insight
Billions of dollars in gift cards go unspent in the US every year. That number gets quoted a lot, and it holds up. But when we looked at what our own users were tracking, we kept finding the same thing: the gift card was rarely the value that actually got lost.
The two most-lost asset types were store credit and return deadlines.
Think about how each one disappears:
- Store credit. You return a jacket, the retailer hands you a merchandise credit, and it lives on a receipt in a coat pocket until it's worthless. Nothing expires loudly. It just quietly becomes nothing.
- Return deadlines. You buy something, mean to decide by the weekend, and the weekend turns into a month. The 30-day window closes and a perfectly good item becomes an expensive one.
- Gift cards. The one everybody already worries about, and the one with the loudest expiry date.
All three are the same problem wearing different clothes: value you own, that you can't see, that expires if you forget it.
What's new
Today we're changing what CardKeep is. It is now a personal value recovery platform that tracks gift cards, store credits, and return deadlines in one place.
Never Lose Value Again.
The new Value Dashboard
Your dashboard is now the first thing you see, and it opens with the only number that matters:
You have $X available.
That figure is the sum of every gift card balance, every store credit, and every return still inside its window. Below it sits what's expiring soon and what needs action, so you can deal with things before they're gone.
New intake flows
Adding value that isn't a gift card takes seconds:
- Store credit — enter the merchant and the amount, attach the receipt, and it's tracked alongside your cards.
- Return window — enter what you bought and the return-by date, keep the receipt photo attached, and CardKeep counts down for you.
Both live in the same wallet as your gift cards, because separating them is exactly how they get lost.
Reminders that escalate
One reminder isn't enough, because the closer a deadline gets the more it matters. CardKeep now reminds you at 60, 30, 14, and 7 days before any value expires, whether that's a gift card, a store credit, or a return window.
Each item carries its own reminder settings too, so you can turn any tier off when you don't need it.
What hasn't changed
Everything that made CardKeep worth using: AI card scanning, balance tracking, nearby store alerts, effortless sharing with family or your team, and your data staying yours. The wallet you already have is still here. It just holds more of what you own.
If you have value sitting in a drawer, on a receipt, or in an inbox, open CardKeep and add it. Then let the reminders do the worrying.
